As of a few days ago, our home study was completed and approved by both our home study agency and our adoption agency. Once they receive their notarized copy, they will send it, along with an application form we completed several weeks ago and a bunch of money, to get the official form from the government giving us permission to adopt a child from a foreign country. (We will have to have yet another set of fingerprints done before then - they'll send us an appointment time to go to St. Louis to get them done once they receive our application.)
So...while we are waiting for that, we will get all the other documents we have collected for our dossier taken to the local office of the Missouri Secretary of State to have the notary signatures on each one verified. Then, we will send all of them to the Chinese Consulate in Chicago to have them "authenticated". And once all of that is done, we will send the documents to our adoption agency to have them translated.
There's a lot of work ahead, but at least now the home study hassle is over and we can focus on getting all the papers we need to actually adopt Jiang Zhen sent to China.
