On May 27, the U.S. Customs and Immigration Service (USCIS) received our application requesting permission to adopt a child from a foreign country. On June 24, we had the necessary fingerprints taken at the Federal Building in St. Louis.
Since then we have been waiting.....and waiting.....and waiting.....
When we receive the official permission form from the USCIS, we will have all of the papers we need to send to China (all of our other papers are already at our agency, ready to go). We have been told that it is taking 8-10 weeks to get USCIS permission at this point. Next week will be our 8th week of waiting, so we hope to hear something soon.
Of course, after China receives all of our papers, we will have to wait more months to get permission from the Chinese government to adopt one of their kids. We are not getting any younger, and neither is our daughter-to-be. But that's not what governments worry about - they want to make sure we have all our t's crossed and our i's dotted. And at the speed they move it takes a LONG time.
